Today, I managed to find a few minutes to work on a pattern. This is my very first attempt...and it has me pretty excited! There are some obvious flaws...but I feel like I am off and running all of the sudden. I can't wait to do....MORE!!!

"WHO are these people?" was the question i heard echoing from the living room this afternoon. We don't know who they are...they just showed up on the living room floor. Turns out they fell out of one of the old books Grandma sent. I wonder where they are now?

blackbirddesign.com is no more. last fall in my nesting frenzy i did everything but pay for my domain subscription! so someone else snatched it up. because of this, i have decided to just use my blog from here on out. in the coming days my blog address will be changing as well. the new address will be deirdrefriebely.com.

UPDATE: blackbirddesign.com is no more. sadly, in my nesting frenzy last fall i forgot to pay for my domain subscription and someone else bought it.
Oh well, I am not sad. I will be using deirdrefriebely.com from here on out. Can't imagine anyone else will want that one...ever!

UPDATE: Just letting everyone know that I am in fact working. Should have some new stuff in time for Christmas.

Introducing...

Somehow I managed to collect a few spare minutes for myself this afternoon, and so I thought I would introduce Maximilian Arthur a.k.a Max...

He was born on June 16th...2 weeks overdue and weighing in at 9 lb 8 oz! He was born quickly and naturally at The Fruitful Vine, a birthing center founded by midwives here in Jacksonville. So far he seems to be a happy little guy...and we are all enjoying him immensely! 

Current News...

So...once again it's been a while. I am still on the nest...2 days past my official due date and growing weary of my aches and pains and anxious to meet this new little guy. I am sure many of you can relate. Anyway, you will behappy to hear, I hope, that I have not been squandering my time. I have had very little time or energy to create anything of a physical nature...but I have been dreaming up some new ideas! I am very excited and have been feeling sursprisingly focused. So when I do, at long last, begin to create again, I will hit the ground running. A couple things...in my nesting frenzy I let my domain "blackbirddesign.com" lapse...and someone else snatched it up. So you will no longer be able to find my work at that address. For the time being you can reach me here at this blog, but ultilmately everything will be getting moved...somewhere else. I honestly cannot say when that will happen...but please know that I am working on it when I can. What else...? As for what I am planning as far as work...I am thinking colorful patterns possibly applied on fabric and or canvas. I am also planning some new work from cut paper and gouache. So hopefully you will all stay patiently tuned. And in other news...we had a major thunderstorm here in Jacksonville today...and although our garage didn't get struck by lightening...it did mystersiously catch on fire while we were all out at the grocery store. Very odd. We got home just in time for my husband to put it out! So needless to say, there is activity here! Well, I guess that is about it for now. I will leave you with a parting shot of my 9 month (and counting) belly...and yes that is a plate of cupcakes in the background! And yes thank you, they WERE good! ; ) Talk to you all soon!

Hello All!

Back on my blog. Haven't visited in a VERY long time. I've been off trying out some new painting ideas, chasing a toddler and 5 months pregnant now...so I have been...busy...i guess you could say. Anyway, I will be making an appearance with Earth Angels in Sanford, Florida at the Jeanine Taylor Folk Art Gallery on March 4th and 5th. It looks like it is shaping up to be a really great time and I hope that I will be able to catch up with some of you there! In the meantime, I will be working on a new blog and website format...that is hopefully easier for me to update...so I won't disappear for months at a time at least. I can't say I can promise anything come June 4th or there abouts...when the new little BOY comes! That's right boy #2! But I promise I will do my best!!
