I was just sitting around, and got inspired to take a photo of my "Gorey Cabinet" in our diningroom. I painted it a few months ago. It actually started out with a desire to have a piece of furniture with some kind of handwriting on it. I began by painting my favorite pink cabinet black. (yes, a little traumatic...but I think having a giant pink cupboard in the house was more traumatizing to my husband!) Then I looked at it for about a week waiting for inspiration to hit. Whatever I wrote on it had to be timeless. Suddenly it struck me. What could be appropriate than The Doubtful Guest! It has since become my favorite piece of furniture. And a conversation piece. If I walk by it in a blue mood, I can't help but laugh! What a fantastic and creative genius was Edward Gorey!!

After beginning the day with some painting, we headed to the beach in the late afternoon after the hot, hot sun had gotten a little less hot, hot. The wind was actually blowing. Horaay wind! A major storm inspired us to pick up our things and cruise on down to St. Augustine. We tooled around on our bikes and I snapped a couple of pictures before the deluge. After dark we were lured into a repro colonial pub by the sound of faux sailors belting out old sea songs. Candlelight, beer and dark wind made for a perfect setting.
Birthday day. Started it off with beautiful gerber daisies by mail, followed by presents and a slow and relaxing morning; a perfect afternoon at the beach; a great workout; a stunning dinner by the river; and last but not least...carrot cake with a big, fat candle, a plate of chocolate cupcakes with chocolate icing...and another plate of vanilla cupcakes. The abundance of cake will certainly inspire a painting! Thank you for a great start to my 32nd year...
This sign is from what my mom and I call "The Old Life." I designed and put it together for her shop in York, Me. When we lived there. All together. Instead of very far apart. "The Old Life." Anyway, I was trying to find a photo of something else and found this. I love this sign! I should try to dig up some pictures of our shops...I will do that.
Thinking about our first anniversary coming up in August, I was looking through photos...a friend of ours snapped this one at our reception. Out of all the piles of pictures we have, this is one of my favorites. It captures the essence of the whole party...the colorful flags, banners and ribbons. The barn, that is usually chock full of tractors parts and tools, dressed up to the nines. A blur of friends and family dancing and eating. A perfect summer evening.

At the end of June we took a two week road trip from Jacksonville to our old stomping grounds up north. What fun. Love road trips. Gunned it straight through to NJ and decended wearily on my parents. After recovering our sanity, we ventured out to drink our morning coffee in the garden...and to goof off. Naturally.
