September 2007

That last post, being a picture I took of a book, reminded me of this picture I snapped of one of my dad's notebooks. He has that teeny, tiny, angular, left-handed, engineer handwriting...which I have always found intruiging...although, somewhat impossible to interpret!

A little sidebar...I found my dream house. This is a picture of a picture...but I think it gets the message across.

I returned home renewed, relaxed and ready to paint. Jen at Earth Angels is organizing a show for me in Warwick for the month of October. (More info to come) So I have been working very hard indeed and have even had some exciting breakthroughs. I'm not going to give anything away at the moment...but I will give a glimse of something new...

O.K. back to work.

Well, I knew I had let some time pass since my last entry...but i had no idea it had been SO long! Bad, boring me! Well, my excuse is I was visiting my family back on the farm. I wasn't posting, but I was taking pictures...and sketching...and soaking up the last few days of summer. Here are some pictures I snapped of the milkroom that is attached to the barn at Highwood. My mother has it chock full of garden goods. Wire, metal, little pots and tools, old prints and paintings, watering cans...the skeletons of two rosemary topiaries (can anyone keep those alive? I've never had any success!!) I could go on...I could also post about 30 pictures, but I will exercise restraint and only show my favorites!

OOOh, check out those beans over there...they're outta control!

Here is the finished "key project." This chandelier has been completely neglected until now. Well how much attention does a light fixture need really? But it had no shades and no embellishments...it was straight out of the box. Now it is a little piece of art. I painted the shades to match our wall, and with my love of words I couldn't leave them plain! One says "The key to love...devotion and an open heart." Each one is different...there is a key to freedom, happiness, forgiveness, wisdom and success. I love it!

So, I am on a serious roll with my homey projects. (I guess it's what keeps me sane when my husband is half way around the world working.) Anyway, the other afternoon I finished this fireboard. I've had the wood all put together for a while, but didn't know what to do with it. The blank canvas effect I guess. A week or two ago though I got these funky, rusty iron swirls at a friend's yard sale. Well, I put it all together, slapped some paint on, and now I have a piece of art to look at instead of a dark dirty hole! Always a good thing in my opinion!
