Last week my mom, a.k.a. Marmie, came to visit. We had a few days together to romp around Jacksonville. There was a lot of time spent drinking coffee, chatting about upcoming projects and time was set aside for a Pride and Predjudice marathon. The BBC/Colin Firth version OF COURSE!! So, so good! We poked around The Cummer Museum and Gardens on sunday afternoon and visited the local art store to goof off and touch all the art supplies. Fun. Fun. Fun.
Just a little glimse at my collection of feathered friends...an unconscious collection by the way. The red duck was pilfered from my mom's gallery of folk art. He's been following me around for a while now, and never stops staring. The yellow duck is one from my days of fiber art. I made his home on the most delicious piece of nubby, aqua wool. Mmmm. The swimming ducks are the newest additions to collection. They are deep in thought, and look as if they are on their way to somewhere important! All of them give me a chuckle when they catch my eye.
In my studio today sketching new characters. While we have elephants on our minds...check out elephants.com...the website of an elephant sanctuary in Tennessee. It's loaded with sweet stories of retired pachoderm performers and their friends. Here's what I came up with today...a new twist on a favorite theme of mine. The newspaper clipping at the top reads "father and son."
Today I gave my website and blog a new look. My palette has been developing a bit lately, and I have also been incorporating bits of the daily news in my work. I guess I sort of wanted to celebrate...by changing things up to reflect this new direction! Here is an example of one of the newer pieces...you can view the painting itself on my website.
Does anyone else out there get great ideas in the shower? I discovered recently that there is a scientific reason why, during my longer-than-they-should-be showers, I get ideas galore. Your skin, being the largest organ in your body, is filled with sensors. When the water hits your skin it activates certain sensors that stimulate your brain. So when you are feeling creatively challenged...jump on in, relax and take a nice, long shower! Clean, creative genius.
