I don't know when I am going to get to this little project...since I have been carting it around for quite a while now. BUT, my intention is to make an eye catching necklace out of these vintage spools of thread and findings. I will certainly post it when it is complete...but until then...I just loved the way they looked in a pile.
Poor Henry was so tired that he crawled under the bed...and fell asleep. Too much Christmas perhaps??
Or not. I was happily painting away for about an hour the other day before I noticed someone had been busy at work during the night...stashing Henry's dog food on my easel. Sad. An awful lot of work for nothing.
I ventured out to take photos of the ice storm that knocked out our power last week. It was so pretty...and strange. The farm in New Jersey is backed right up against the Appalachian Trail...and so the mountain ridge behind and around the house is pretty substantial. The ice during this storm, although it did stick to the trees around the yard for a day, stuck for longer to the trees on the mountain. The effect was an eerie kind of line drawn, between what looked like winter and spring.
Well, for anyone that hasn't heard the news...the stork is visiting our house at the end of April! We are very excited naturally. Since I have been in NJ painting away (and enjoying the winter weather) I have not been at home working away on the nursery...but I did get the room emptied out and hung a little shelf of some goodies before I left. So when we head south again...it will be nothing but nesting!
I just can't see it through the ice on the window! I am in New Jersey again...this time for the winter. It has been a little difficult adjusting back to the cold...and checking the weather in Jacksonville and finding it to be 75 degrees rather than 20 hasn't been helping! Still, as the days go by, I am finding that the cold is not as bad as I remember it. It makes me happy to know that I have not turned into as big a wimp as I had imagined. Although, I can say absolutely, I miss our late night strolls around Riverside in the balmy fall weather.
I have to say there is nothing I love more than watching birds swaying and balancing at the top of trees...except for flocks of birds swooshing and diving in sync...that stops me dead in my tracks every time for some reason. These guys are definitely conducting important business and will certainly inspire a painting!
I despise cold hands and feet...especially when I am painting. So I made fingerless gloves...out of socks. They are so fun because you can make them out of any pair of funky knee socks. All you do is chop them off at the heal, and hem. Turn them around so the band that would be at the top of the sock goes around your fingers. Cut a hole for your thumb and hem. I used an extra piece of the foot that I cut off to hand stitch a band around the thumb hole...because I didn't have the patience to do it with the clunky sewing machine. Then add funky buttons or thread. May I also add, that after taking these photos, I have a new appreciation for hand models!
